Colonic Hydrotherapy

Our approach to Colonic Hydrotherapy

Whether you have had the treatment before or not, it is natural to feel apprehensive about colonics. Here is why you can relax and let go of all your concerns:

Attention to detail

Only disposable contact parts and tubing are used. The water is filtered and the pressure kept very low.

Dedicated treatment room

The clinic and treatment room are kept meticulously clean, and are private so the experience can be relaxing, nurturing and above all one in which you feel safe and in control.

The space is airy and opens on to a secluded private garden. It provides natural light and a calm oasis in busy Camden.

Colonic Irrigation / Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment

You could be forgiven for thinking that a Colonic is essentially about cleansing of waste and gases. Metaphors comparing the colon to a sewage system are common and do nothing to raise the profile of this little-loved organ.

A Colonic is more than symptomatic relief from constipation. It is a  procedure to cleanse the bowel which is comparable to a form of visceral activation and release.

Washing out waste gives immediate relief from bloating and provides a useful window of opportunity to rectify constipation or/and excessive gas.

The additional long-term benefits of Colonic Hydrotherapy come from the gentle manipulations which are applied while tuning in to the gut's rhythms. In this way, a Colonic treatment can profoundly release the tensions and distortions held in the gut which over time impair its proper function.

By stimulating gut movements, the therapy harmonises the Gut-Brain axis controlled by the many gut signalling compounds (neurotransmitters, gut hormones, immune mediating compounds) that regulate the activities of the gut.

The emptying effect creates more space in the abdominal chamber and allows a better awareness of the relationships between breath, bowel function and gut feelings and sensations.

Overall, the heightened connection between our brain and gut that comes from mindful Colonic Hydrotherapy practice brings a valuable dimension to mental health, stress resilience and bowel management.

Colonic Implants

The walls of the colon easily absorb water-soluble compounds. Colonic Irrigation is a valuable vector for quick delivery of herbal tinctures, colloidal minerals, salts etc. directly to the colon walls, the hepatic (liver) circulation and the vagus nerve.

A Coffee Enema can be included in a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment to stimulate the  release of bile from the liver and gallbladder. Coffee has a potent effect on liver detoxification and can enhance the effect of a Colonic and any detoxification protocol such as a liver and gallbladder flush or a (juice) fast.

Post-Colonic Sigmoid implantsColonic Irrigation facilitates the introduction and retention of a therapeutic post-treatment implantProbiotics, butyric acid or specific herbs can be used depending on individual requirements.

Contra-indications

(reasons why a Colonic might not be advisable – please contact us if unsure)

These relate to:

  • The introduction of a short (2” inches long) and relatively small device (3/4” diameter) into the rectum and include anal fissures and severe haemorrhoids.
  • The amount of water introduced is only to bowel tolerance and rarely exceeds a couple of litres. However, this can be a problem with a compromised bowel wall, as in Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis(IBD), Bowel Cancer and medications/bowel pathology leading to reduced bowel tissue integrity.
  • Hernia and abdominal surgery should be healed before treatment.
  • Caution must be applied with liver/kidney disease, pregnancy and hypertension.

A thorough medical history is taken and contra-indications reviewed before treatment.
