Microbiome testing

Our approach to Microbiome testing

After a great deal of research, and comparison across the various microbiome testing providers, we have decided to settle on the Microba service for Microbiome Testing & Analysis for the following reasons:

  • Your samples are correctly preserved throughout transit and analysed without delay to ensure stability, reproducibility and reliability.
  • The technology comprises 3 types of analysis, including next-generation DNA sequencing technology (mNGS) which detects and quantifies the bacteria, archaea, fungi, yeasts and protists present, and the functional genes they carry. This provides a complete picture of which microbes are there and what substances they might be producing. To this a PCR pathogen panel may be added, plus ELISA testing of other significant biomarkers.

The report provides a uniquely comprehensive and scientifically-validated panel of results. These can signpost a wide array of dysfunctions including immune, digestive, inflammatory disorders and more.

Although an Australian Lab (est. 2017), Micoba has had a strong presence in the UK since 2024.

Microba laboratories has undergone rigorous assessments of technical competence, quality systems, and compliance with international standards

The platform draws on Microba's in-house reference database, one of the most comprehensive available, developed over the last 10 years and validated through peer-reviewed research.

The technology and scientific understanding underpinning Microba gut & microbiome reports continues to be refined through ongoing research and collaboration with other researchers, with regular updates on the significance of certain bugs and/or markers for health and their correlation with diet, lifestyle and disease.

A balanced microbiome is a healthy microbiome

When your gut microbiome is balanced, you feel the difference: steady energy, good digestion, and emotional resilience. Measuring the health and balance of the microbiome takes precision testing and focussed intervention, hence the need for a reliable test.

Microbiome health underpins more than digestion, digestive comfort and elimination. Symptoms such as low energy, hormonal imbalances, skin issues, low mood, anxiety, recurring infections and especially chronic inflammation are often traced to a disrupted microbiome. Much research is currently devoted to understanding how the microbiome is so profoundly involved in the plagues of our modern world.

Microba offers three levels of testing depending on needs and requirements:
